When Should You Consider a Second Date?

Posted: 31 Jan 2015 07:06 AM PST

The first date with your latest online match didn't leave you feeling that chemistry you desire so much, but it wasn't a bad date either. It was just kind of so-so. The whole experience leaves you wondering – is it worth giving this guy another chance?

I'm a big advocate of giving people a second (and third and possibly fourth) chance. Often, intimacy and attraction are built over time, especially if you're guarded with your emotions. Instant chemistry isn't always a good thing ...

What Does it Mean When He Closes His Eyes During Sex?

Posted: 30 Jan 2015 11:35 PM PST

by Felicity Keith

You are in bed together…

Passionately in the moment…

Feeling so intimately connected…

And then…

He closes his eyes in order to get to the "finish line".

What exactly does that mean?

If you are like a lot of women, you might wonder if he's retreating into a vivid fantasy world. Wondering, is he thinking about another woman?

I'm happy to tell you that his closing his eyes really has nothing to do with escaping from the moment with you and everything to do with actually enjoying the intense sensations happening.

For most guys, they put a certain amount of mental effort toward holding BACK on climaxing during sex. They want to last longer, to please you more, and not race to the finish.

So when they actually do shift gears into allowing their orgasm to happen, the physical sensations are powerful. Closing his eyes allows him to fully tune in to what is happening pleasure-wise in his body.

It was explained to me in this way: When you take away one of the five senses, it makes the other senses and sensations stronger and more vivid.

When I surveyed my Man Panel when writing The Language of Desire (and the sexy secondary product, The Sensual Tsunami) about what male orgasm feels like, they set me straight.

One man told me: "It's like a slow-building rollercoaster that takes a very sharp incline almost straight up before you rocket straight back down.

And you get this amazing feeling in your stomach right before you climax and then for the next 10-15 seconds the floor drops out and you are drifting in bliss. Then you come back to reality."

With that kind of intensity, he isn't even keeping track of what his eyes are doing!

You can also think about it like kissing. We close our eyes when we kiss not because we want to disconnect from the moment but because it actually draws our awareness closer to what is taking place physically.

Except when it comes to orgasm, it's about a million times more physical fireworks.

Could he be thinking about another woman when he closes his eyes?

Sure, it's possible he's mentally fantasizing about making love to a Victoria's Secret model while he's in bed with you. Just like sometimes you might close your eyes and think about Brad Pitt or Denzel Washington…or whoever floats the little man in your boat.

Fantasizing in that manner isn't a bad thing. It's totally normal and most people (both men and women) do it on occasion.

And it doesn't damage your relationship when it's something that happens once in awhile, especially when the fantasy includes a celebrity or someone you aren't ever actually going to even meet…let alone get naked with.

If you'd like more information about what goes through your man's brain when it comes to sex as well as in depth information about how to use sexual fantasies to spice up your intimate connection, make sure to check out The Language of Desire.

Trust Me, I'm a Scientist

Jan. 30, 2015
The American public believes in science — just not its findings
What's behind the "debate" over issues like climate change and vaccination? Can evidence change people's minds? A Pew Research Center poll suggests the American public and U.S. scientists are light-years apart on science issues — and 98% of surveyed scientists say it's a problem that we don't know what they're talking about.

Some examples:

+ Genetically modified foods: Eighty-eight percent of scientists say they’re "generally safe" to eat; 37% of the public agrees.

+ Vaccines: Eighty-six percent of scientists believe they should be required in childhood, compared to 68% of the public.

+ Climate change: Ninety-four percent of scientists say it’s a “very serious" or "somewhat serious" problem; 6% of the public agrees. While 87% of scientists blame humans, only 50% of the public does too.

+ Evolution: Ninety-eight percent of scientists say they believe humans evolved over time, compared to 65% of the public.

+ Ninety-seven percent of the scientists criticized the educational system and see major problems if communities don't invest in science literacy.

+ "It's not about being smart or dumb," American Association for the Advancement of Science CEO Alan Leshner told the AP. "It's about whether, in fact, you understand the source of the fact and what the facts are."
Girls are beating boys in schools everywhere — even in places where they lack basic rights
new study from Gijsbert Stoet of the University of Glasgow and David C. Geary of the University of Missouri found that girls tend to outperform boys in educational achievement in most countries around the world.

Even more impressive, the girls' stellar performances extended to countries in which women face major obstacles to social, political, economic or gender inequality.

+ The report looked at 1.5 million 15-year-olds in 74 countries around the world the world, examining their performance on the Programme for International Student Assessment, a global survey that aims to evaluate education systems worldwide.

+ In 70% of countries, girls scored significantly better than boys on the standardized test, which includes reading, mathematics and science literacy sections.

+ Even in places that typically rank poorly when it comes to gender equality, such as QatarJordan and the United Arab Emirates, the gap between the sexes is fairly high, and girls come out on top.

+ Boys did better in just three places: Colombia, Costa Rica and the Indian state of Himachal Pradesh.

I wrote When Dating Sites Lie last August when OkCupid got in trouble for manipulating search results and not exactly coming clean to users until after the fact. Jaron Lanier recently discussed whether machine learning systems like Netflix recommendations, Facebook's newsfeed, Google search etc are manipulative: "There's no way to tell where the border is between measurement and manipulation."

New Stanford research finds computers are better judges of personality.

According to Kosinski, the findings reveal that by mining a person’s Facebook “likes,” a computer was able to predict a person’s personality more accurately than most of their friends and family. Only a person’s spouse came close to matching the computer’s results.

A small Australian-based startup has launched a series of companion apps for Tinder – the most significant of which is called Match Genie. The “killer feature” of Match Genie is that it can (using a statistical analysis method they have devised) show you who on Tinder has actually already like you – meaning you can browse these potential matches at your leisure and instantly match with any that you choose. It also lets you browse profiles without the need to either ‘like’ or ‘reject’ up-front.

Anomo is a new anonymous matching app that can successfully predict the chances of two people carrying on a successful online chat session. Over the past 12 months, we’ve analyzed over 30 million "get-to-know-you" ice breaker questions that people have answered on our app.  These are multiple choice questions like "what color makes you feel the best".  With this data, we built an algorithm that can predict and match two people.  We are not making crazy claims like being able to predict successful marriages or personality compatibility like eHarmony or Match.com.  We are simply saying that we can predict the likelihood of two individuals having a successful online chat session or not.  The other nice part about our app is that there is no "dating" pressure.  People use our app to initiate friendships and meet new people with common interests.

Displaying dominant body language everywhere you go

Posted: 28 Jan 2015 03:02 PM PST

Nonverbal communication is one of the best keys in attracting women. You hear it all the time, women want a dominant alpha guy. This is 100% true for most women. Keep in mind though, women want a dominant guy but not a domineering guy.

So what qualities consist of a dominant man? I mean attraction begins as soon as a women lays her eyes on you.

The Details:

1. Standing- A dominant man always stands nice and straight. He has his feet shoulder width apart and he is nice and calm. His hands are at his side or puts each hand in a back pocket and avoids putting both hands on the side pockets. He looks friendly and approachable.

2. Walking- When walking, a dominant man  walks with a purpose and looks straight ahead. He does not fear that he will fall because he is confident in every step. People make room for you because they sense that vibe of walking with a purpose.

3. Siting- A dominant man never slouches and sits straight. He is not afraid to take up space while sitting. In fact he usually takes up a bit of extra space. Avoid crossing your arms. This is negative body language unless it's a cold environment. Be relaxed and have your arms opened. The eye contact is warm and welcoming. (This is whether he is standing, walking or sitting)

The bottom line:

Good posture tells a women everything. Especially when you first meet one. They will focus much more on the body language rather then what comes out of your mouth. The reason why is because it's much easier to lie with our words then it is to lie with our body language.

How to Overcome a Bad First Impression

Posted: 29 Jan 2015 03:41 AM PST

Online dating is all about first impressions. After all, there's a big pool of daters out there – if someone doesn't interest you or work out from the start, there's plenty more to meet! You might think - why waste time with someone who didn't text back right away, acted nervous throughout the night, or canceled your first date three times? No thanks!

But what happens when you are the one who wants a do-over?

Sometimes, you don't get a second chance to make a ...

How Much We Spend on Prison vs. Education

Jan. 29, 2015
What the U.S. spends on imprisonment vs. education, in one startling GIF
Good morning! Did you know that the U.S. spends way, way more keeping someone alive in prison is than on educating them?

The GIF below uses data from the Vera Institute of Justice's 2012 "Price of Prisons" report and 2012 U.S. Census data on public school costs. (Several states did not participate in the survey.) You can see that average resources annually devoted to prisoners easily outpace resources for students:

"In dozens of states, the cost of imprisoning someone is far more than double or triple the cost of educating a student," writes Mic's Zeeshan Aleem. "Perhaps if more money were spent on creating and sustaining an education system that met all of its students' needs, we wouldn't need to spend so much money on putting people behind bars
